Weaving with Waste workshop in Newark on Wednesday 2nd July from 10am to 4pm

Led by local artist Sarah Cooke - do you want to learn how to make beautiful textiles out of rubbish? A practical day course: 6 hours including lunch break

In one day, you will learn how to put the warp on a simple frame loom, how to do plain weave, and then have fun weaving with a selection of unconventional materials.

You will go home with a unique wall hanging, a table mat, a small bag or a covered notebook. And a new way of looking at your rubbish before you throw it away.

Sarah Cooke is an artist who weaves. She is based in Nottingham and leads regular workshops at the Museum of Making in Derby.

Sarah brings looms and all materials for weaving, but people can bring their own too. Participants can buy their loom to take home if they want to carry on weaving.

The space needed for the looms means the maximum number of participants is 12. Places will be booked on a first come basis.

£21 is the standard price for this workshop and an additional £18 (payable in advance or on the day if you want to take the loom home).

Free or pay what you can afford places: The Newark Quaker meeting is funding a number of free or low cost places. If you can't afford the standard price please request this when you book your place because we don't want to prevent anyone from participating.

£50 Supporters Rate. If you would like to support the development of future Borrow and Repair events in Newark and can afford to do so a price of £50 for the day including the full workshop and taking home your loom is the supporters suggested price.

To book a place message Lisa Geary or add to the discussion on the event on Facebook or email Y2xscmxpc2EgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ==

Lisa is suggesting we offer a bring and share lunch. So please bring some food you like that you would like to share or let me know if you have special dietary needs and will just bring your own packed lunch.

Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided for the start of the day and the breaks.

The event is at Beaumont Walk Community Centre, walkway off Strawberry Hall Lane, near 8 Lincoln Rd, Newark NG24 2DP.

You will find you can walk up Beaumont Walk which is the first pedestrian only walkway off the North side of Strawberry Hall Lane (on the left if you are coming from Lincoln Road). Parking is available on Strawberry Hall Lane.

There is a new group Borrow and Repair Newark working together to look into setting up a repair cafe in Newark. To get this going we plan to hold two one off events. One is this weaving workshop. The other will be a clothes swap aka Swish on Friday 27th June 7pm to 9pm at Coreset £10 each. We would like to promote issues about waste, reuse and recycling locally by advertising the workshop and sharing photos after it's taken place.
