Coming Home to the Heart, Part 2

On Monday, Michael Scardaville will present the conclusion of his talk about the potential of Buddhist practice. Through personal experience and insights from various traditions, he will continue to take us on his 30-year journey during which he learned that Buddhism offers more than a way to reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep, reduce emotional reactivity, and enhance creativity. While those are laudable outcomes, our practice can be so much more than that, as it can be a transformative path which can enable us to open to our True Nature and live from our heart. Over time, we come to realize that we already possess what we are looking for and that our practice is simply a matter of coming home to a heart that is already awakened. During the discussion, we can explore together the nature of our respective paths to wholeness and to our authentic self.

You did not have to hear the first part of this talk to appreciate the topics that will be addressed Monday evening, as Michael will summarize the main points in his opening talk. Since this will be Michael’s last dharma talk at The Social Sangha, or anywhere, please know that he will also discuss how two core Buddhist teachings, accepting what is and letting go, played a key role in his decision to step down from teaching. Spoiler alert: it wasn’t as easy as you think.

Format: All dharma talk programs include meditation and time for questions and discussion.

Cancellation Notice: In case of adverse weather or other conditions that may required us to cancel: Please check our website (thesocialsangha.com) to see if the event has been cancelled.

Danā: Access to community and wisdom should be available to everyone, so all sangha events are offered for free. Following ancient buddhist practice, we collect danā, a Pali word that means “generosity” or “giving freely.” Danā is a practice of a mutual exchange of generosity and abundance. It develops lovingkindness, deepens our sense of interconnectedness, and encourages non-attachment. If this kind of giving is available to you, there will be a donation box at this event. Donations will go to support our valued teacher as well The Lodge at Quietude and The Social Sangha. Any amount is welcome. One suggested amount is $15.

Parking: Please park at the front of The Lodge at Quietude. Parking behind The Lodge is used by residents of Quietude. If we should run out of parking in the front, kindly park at the Black Mountain Wellness Center (1141 Montreat Rd.), which is just 50 yards further north and on the left when you continue up Montreat Road.
