sixty beats per minute –FINAL WEEKEND
Your last chance to experience sixty beats per minute, a live deep listening surround sound installation by Phil Coy, at St George’s Church, Ramsgate.
Open Friday, Saturday, Sunday | 12–5 pm
A film light illuminates the church’s steam age turret clock while microphones amplify its beat alongside the ambient sounds of Ramsgate. Inside the nave, these live sounds are played in surround sound and tuned to the building’s resonant frequency.
At the centre, a large LED screen displays a timecode in sync with the clock. Every six minutes, the timecode reverses and the previous six minutes of sound play back in reverse.
The church becomes a machine to magnify the sonic landscape of Ramsgate.
