Spire Appeal “Side by Side” Open Day
Join us on Saturday 12th July for another Side by Side Open Day to learn about the Spire Project, meet the team and try your hand at the heritage craft skills used.
The Open Day will be held at St John’s following the popular Cake and Coffee Concert, the last in the current season, featuring The Singing Villeins with the Thompson-Cox Family Jazz Quartet.
The Open Day will include:
Stonemason’s Corner : learn about the materials and stone used in the project and have a go at carving a piece of sandstone and lime pointing.
Engineer’s Corner : understand how the spire has remained as a landmark for the town for 500 years, using a model of the church and a fan.
Engage with the Architect : study the technical drawings to understand what has been happening on the spire and the plans to fully restore it.
Chat with historian Simon Henderson and hunt the vicar's keys.
Find out how the money was raised and how it is being spent!
There will be refreshments available all afternoon too.
