Guided Exhibition Tour "Pilgrimage" at Blue Lotus Gallery with Sarah Greene

Exhibition Tour of Pilgrimage, a special exhibition that brings together the works of two acclaimed photographers, Michael Kenna from the United Kingdom and Yasuhiro Ogawa from Japan. Together, these two visionary artists explore pilgrimage not only as a physical journey through sacred landscapes but as a deeper, spiritual quest for meaning, memory and connection.
At the heart of Pilgrimage lies a compelling dialogue between two perspectives: Michael Kenna, the outsider, captivated by Japan’s spiritual essence; and Yasuhiro Ogawa, the insider, whose intimate portrayals of everyday life evoke a profound emotional resonance. Michael Kenna’s photographs, made over more than four decades, are gentle and contemplative—black-and-white meditations on silence, time and place. In contrast, Yasuhiro Ogawa’s are emotive and visceral, rich in texture and tones that emerge from inky shadows.
The exhibition is adorned by Japanese antique objects related to the theme of Japan’s cultural and spiritual heritage.
Sarah Greene is from Ghent in Belgium. She studied Asian Studies at Ghent University, with a major in Japanese and a minor in Chinese. Before moving to Asia, she was a ship broker first in London and Belgum, and then in Hong Kong and Shanghai. She opened the Blue Lotus Gallery in 2012, first in Fo Tan and then in its current location in Sheung Wan, exhibiting many now famous Hong Kong artists. In 2022, Blue Lotus Editions published its first book, Thirty-six Views of Lion Rock, followed by books on the MTR, abandoned villages and other Hong Kong themes.
Members of the RGS, their guests and others are most welcome to attend this event, which is HK$100 for RGS Members and HK$150 for guests and others, including a glass of wine.
