OVERVIEW: Join Allegheny Land Trust to learn more about expanding Dead Man's Hollow Conservation Area! During this info session, ALT will introduce themselves, give a project summary and current status, and open the chat for questions.
SUMMARY | Allegheny Land Trust is working to permanently conserve 10 acres of woodlands in Elizabeth Township along the Great Allegheny Passage and adjacent to ALT’s popular Dead Man’s Hollow Conservation Area. Conserving this green space will preserve the character of this community, build resiliency, and protect the quality of public recreational opportunities enhancing the quality of life for generations to come.
BENEFITS | The land’s permanent conservation would benefit the health, well-being, and enjoyment of current and future community members by preserving biodiversity, air and water quality, and local scenic character as well as creating connections and protected opportunities for close-to-home passive recreation and environmental education.
Namely, conserving this land will help grow Dead Man’s Hollow Conservation Area, further buffer the Great Allegheny Passage bike trail, and protect riparian buffer with frontage along the Youghiogheny River. This land has the capacity to manage stormwater by absorbing 3 million gallons of rainwater annually. As undisturbed green space, it also maintains air quality by annually sequestering 14,478 pounds of carbon and removing 254 pounds of other pollutants.
