Moemoeā | Paige Nebbling

In Māori tradition, moemoeā (dreams) are more than subconscious visions; they serve as prophecies, weaving together thoughts, wairua (spirit), and personal narratives. Historically, moemoeā guided navigation, forewarned of illness or battle, and connected the living with those who have passed. Through oil painting, the artist reimagines moemoeā as a meditative conduit—a portal where emotions and identity converge. This work highlights the historical significance of moemoeā, drawing from both the artist’s tūpuna and their own lived experiences.
