The Polk County Democratic Party is proud to welcome Rob Boston as the headliner for our 2025 Summer Dinner on Thursday, July 16, 5:30pm at The Loft.

Rob Boston is Senior Adviser at Americans United for Separation of Church and State and former Editor of Church & State, AU’s monthly membership magazine. He is also the chief writer for AU’s “Wall of Separation” blog.

Rob, who has worked at Americans United since 1987, is the author of four books: Close Encounters with the Religious Right: Journeys into the Twilight Zone of Religion and Politics (Prometheus Books, 2000); The Most Dangerous Man in America? Pat Robertson and the Rise of the Christian Coalition (Prometheus Books, 1996); Why the Religious Right Is Wrong About Separation of Church and State (Prometheus Books, 1993; second edition, 2003) and, most recently, Taking Liberties: Why Religious Freedom Doesn’t Give You the Right to Tell Other People What to Do (Prometheus Books, 2014).

Rob has appeared in three documentaries: “We Believe in Dinosaurs,” (2019), “American Heretics” (2019) and “God & Country” (2024).

We’ll also be announcing additional speakers in the coming weeks along with our Volunteer(s) of the Year, our 1932 Awardee and our Youth Leadership Recipients.

The dinner will be catered by Great Caterers of Iowa. All tickets include a buffet meal of a green salad, vegetable, two entrees, bread and a dessert. A cash bar will be available.

For any accommodations or dietary needs—including vegan meals—please email us at cG9sa2RlbXMgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ==.

Booths are available for purchase by Democratic candidates and advocacy groups.

Sponsorships are available at many different levels. All proceeds from the event will go toward electing Democrats.

We hope you’ll join us to learn how we can push back against religious extremism—and turn that fight into meaningful political action!
