Who can join: Anyone interested. In choreography and somatics, in both fields. Even if you have no experience in any of the somatic or choreographic methods, you can join this workshop.


Hi!
My name is Vera Shchelkina, and I invite you for my workshop “Somatics into Choreography”.

Why these two?
Somatic and contemporary choreography were born at around the same time, on the verge of a new understanding of the body. But, as many twins, they have sometimes not so easy relationship, due to their sometimes different understanding what body is. The body as the process lived and perceived from within - versus body as the form created by this life.

I am both a choreographer and a somatic practitioner. I am inspired by somatic practice while generating the movement in each project. And I see strengths and depths that somatic practice brings into choreography. And want to share it.

In this 3-hour workshop, we are going to focus on only 2 of the somatic methods - Authentic Movement and BMC (specifically embryology) - and compose their practices into structures using various choreographic methods: instant composition, scores, framing of the audience gaze etc.

Is there dance involved? Definitely.
Is there touch involved? Yes, in both supporting the process of your partner(s) and dancing together.
