Well-crafted Music Series: Amy Ray with Jim Brock, Kerry Brooks, and Adrian Carter

Amy Elizabeth Ray is an American singer-songwriter and member of the contemporary folk duo Indigo Girls with Emily Saliers.[1] She also pursues a solo career, releasing ten albums under her own name, and founded the independent label Daemon Records in 1989. Ray is known for her alto and tenor range, and plays both electric and acoustic guitar, as well as mandolin and harmonica.
Jim Brock has proven to be an innovator in the world of drums and percussion. Within his fifty year career he has appeared on literally hundreds of recordings (app 700) with a diverse genre of artists such as Joe Walsh, Joan Baez, Kathy Mattea, Joe Cocker, Janis Ian, River Phoenix, James McMurtry, Indigo Girls, Carrie Newcomer, Don Dixon, Marti Jones, Amjad Ali Khan, Chris Tomlin, Oliver, Brook Benton, Jeanie C Riley, The Glen Miller Orchestra, The Platters, Patti Page, John Mellencamp and Hootie and the Blowfish.
Kerry Brooks began his musical journey at the age of four, when he started taking piano lessons in his hometown of Albemarle, North Carolina. Guitar lessons began at age nine, and he found his true love – the bass- at seventeen. While in high school and college, Kerry played around North Carolina with various blues and rock bands. During his college days at University of North Carolina – Charlotte, he discovered upright bass and a passion for jazz and classical music. He graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and set off on a career as a full-time performing bassist.

The Well-crafted Music Series is a weekly curation of talent brought to Asheville by pedal steel guitarist Matt Smith. Unique and genre-less, the series celebrates fresh collaborations from seasoned musicians. The series features artists that Matt Smith has met and worked with during his 20+ year career touring and recording.

Highland Taproom guests have the opportunity to see a range professional artists like they’ve never seen them before. For free, in the Highland Taproom or Meadow, when weather permits.
