July 4th Revolutionary War Re-Enactment

This Independence Day, join local historian Duane Jackson on the grounds of the Van Cortlandt Manor for a Revolutionary History Re-enactment Showcase. Costumed presenters will portray soldiers in the 1st Rhode Island Regiment and 2nd New York Regiments, exploring local battles fought by a pioneering regiment of Black Soldiers in the Revolutionary War. Village Historian Marc Cheshire will give brief remarks about the Revolutionary War military service of Pierre and Philip Van Cortlandt before the re-enactment begins. The presentation will begin at 10:00 AM and last approximately 2 hours.

The Showcase will feature:
• The origin and history of the First Rhode Island Regiment
• The Battle of Rhone Island fought by First Rhode Island Regiment
• The Battle of Pine Bridge fought in Yorktown Heights, NY by the First Rhode Island Regiment
• An overview of the Continental Army
• The history of the 2nd New York Regiment
• Description of what the soldiers wore, how they lived and fought
• Demonstration of the firing of a musket
• Questions & Answers
