Why we are doing this....
The Moor Imagination Centre is an absolute jewel at the heart of Buckfastleigh!
But.... they need our support to continue their valuable work. Their first grant-funded phase recently came to an end, and they are currently seeking new grants to enable their work to continue.
In these times of increasing fragmentation, the MIC provides a friendly, down to earth, inclusive hub of community creating, sharing and offering. It makes such a huge difference to the life of our town, Buckfastleigh, and the people in it. It is changing lives for the better and is creating belonging, culture change, radical education of young people, an increase in health and wellbeing for the people who live here, and a sense of great hope and possibility. Sophie and James really did it! They went from the seed of an idea to the manifestation of a dream......
This means that they are now working on a month by month basis financially which is really rather precarious for them, and for all of us. For this reason, we have decided as Circle of Song community choir to put on two special fundraisers to help raise funds for the centre, on Saturday 12th July, and Tuesday 22nd July. We also then decided we'd like to donate some of the money raised to families in Gaza at this heartbreaking time.
The concert is intended to bring together some of the wonderful offerings currently happening at the MIC, along with some special guests too. Joining Circle of Song community choir, we have Moor Words poets, singer/songwriter Leaf Jones, the Youth Band - 'Pigeons in Clay', and special guest master drummer Sam ‘Powerful’ Yeboah. This will be an evening open to all to celebrate the power and joy of community.
We will need true community to navigate the times ahead. We need to invest in our community centre now, and support the founders Sophie Lovett and James Lucas who work so hard to keep this show on the road, and the whole to ensure our centre stays thriving for all.
There is a range of ticket prices to ensure inclusivity, but please give what you can to support the MIC to flourish.
The majority of profits raised will go directly to the MIC. We will also make a donation to families in Gaza through the Coffees for Gaza campaign which helps families evacuate, rebuild or afford basic necessities.
Coffees for Gaza is run by local Devon artist Billy Ruffian, and the project is hand-picked because of it's direct and ongoing personal links with families in Gaza. https://opencollective.com/coffees-for-gaza
The idea is that people donate the price of their monthly coffee budget to go directly to families, which can be supported individually or as a whole via their evacuation fund.
Tickets are non-refundable - please pass/sell on your tickets if you end up not being able to come. Thanks for your understanding on this. Adding extra admin workload reduces the total amount of funds raised for our valuable causes.
