Over 28% of what Americans send to landfills is food waste, mostly fruits and vegetables. Food waste has increased by 50% since the 1970s, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). Composting is an ancient form of recycling in which food waste is given a spot to decompose, then used to nourish soil and the plants growing in it.
In this introductory course to composting led by Linzi Jenkins, attendees will learn the easy basics to backyard composting and the difference between hot and cold composting. Each person will receive a handout with all the material covered, but feel free to bring a pen to take notes.
