Dauset Trail Damage Work Day

Dauset Trails sustained extensive trail damage due to recent storms and is in dire need of trail work volunteers. This event will support Tony Hall's trail clean up efforts beginning this weekend.

Below is a summary of the trails status:

Twenty six large trees have fallen onto the trails and four bridges have been destroyed. Sections of trail have been washed away.

The old trails and Mount Vernon Church Trailhead will remain closed until further notice due to planned reroutes by professionals.

Indian Springs Trail: The bridges are intact but massive erosion has occurred and five large trees have fallen onto the trails. There needs to be some rerouting. The trail will be closed until further notice.

Now the good news. The flow trails held up pretty good. Aside from debris removal, firming up some sloppy spots and making the creek crossing safe, Town Branch, Aboothlacoosta and Lake Clark Loop could be repaired by a couple of work parties. After the repairs are made the Creeks Trail sections can be reopened. Sandy Creek Trail has three large trees down that the Dauset Crew has to clear. There is debris and several sections need some shovel work. Then it can be opened.

Meeting at the Creeks Trailhead on Brown Lee Road. Bring your Hard Rake, Shovel, Root Cutter, Hoe, Rouge Hoe or Ax. We’ll break up in teams and pick a section and get the trail back in shape.
