Boon Khao Phansa (Vassa Merit Making)

We are delighted to inform you that we are organising a special event for the first day of Buddhist Lent, also known as Vassa (Pali: vassa-, Sanskrit: varṣa-, both meaning "rain"), which is the three-month annual retreat observed by Theravada Buddhists.
On this day, our lay community will come together to show our support for the monks who will remain in this place for three months during Vassa. Symbolically, we strive to maintain the traditional offerings that people in the past have presented to monks on this day, ensuring that our next generation can continue to witness these customs. We will be offering Vassa candles and bathing cloths for the monks. In addition to traditional offerings, we will also be making donations to ensure that the temple remains financially sustainable throughout Vassa.
Not only do we come to support the monks during their rain retreat, but we, as laypeople, can also determine which Dhamma practices we will engage in more intensively during this Vassa. Thus, Vassa is a time for both monks and the lay community to support each other in Dhamma practice and accumulate more merit.
Dhammo have rakkhati dhammacāriṃ: The Dhamma protects those who practice the Dhamma.
