In July 2025, Italian artist, Stefano Moras (1985) will present the first major survey of his work in Belgium, in the exhibition-halls of the (under threat) La Vallee, Bxl. Leading up to that, Gallery Nostrum is delighted to have the opportunity to present 30 works on paper by Stefano. We had the privilege to work with him first, in March 2023, with the three-person exhibition; Support Group, alongside Francesco Battistello and Laura Dauchet. The word Aspic is a culinary term where ingredients are set in a mould of savoury jelly. It originates from the late 18th century in France with ‘Asp’ literally comparing the colours of the jelly to those of the snake. The oxford dictionary provides one definition of Aspic as, in its simplest form, a solid version of a conventional soup With the works presented in Aspic! Stefano meanders snake-like across the variety of materials and techniques he has employed throughout his career. All the elements found in his larger canvases, supportless-paintings, assemblages and sculptures are present, captured and preserved in a format and a scale easy to savour and digest.
We would be delighted if you would join us for the opening of this exhibition on Wednesday, May 14th from 17h – 20h and after that on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 13h -18h, until June 27th.
There will also be an Artist Brunch on Sunday June 15th,

Stefano Moras is a visual artist born in 1985 in Pordenone (Italy). He graduated in Visual Arts at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Venice in 2012. He soon had the opportunity to research and develop his work in various international contexts: in 2009 he spent a year at Lahti University of Applied Sciences in Finland; between 2012 and 2014 he was selected for a residency in the AiR programme at KAT-Sugar Refinery Art Village in Kaohsiung, Taiwan; in 2014 he took part in the Progetto Borca residency, in Cadore, and then collaborated with Dolomiti Contemporanee; in 2020 he was a finalist for the first session of the Reopening Boxes residency at LaVallée in Brussels. In 2017 his work was selected for the Francesco Fabbri Foundation prize.
Stefano has been selected for numerous workshops and exhibitions in Italy, between Venice, Padua, Treviso, Belluno, Trento, Bevagna, Brescia, Casso, Pieve di Soligo, Pieve di Cadore.
He currently works in his studio in Brussels and collaborates with Open Earth Foundation.

En juillet 2025, l'artiste italien Stefano Moras (1985) présentera la première grande exposition de son oeuvre en Belgique, dans les salles d'exposition de La Vallée (menacée), à Bxl. En attendant, la Gallery Nostrum est ravie de pouvoir présenter 30 oeuvres sur papier de Stefano. Nous avons eu le privilège de travailler avec lui pour la première fois en mars 2023, avec l'exposition de trois personnes, Support Group, aux côtés de Francesco Battistello et Laura Dauchet. Le mot « Aspic » est un terme culinaire qui désigne le fait de placer des ingrédients dans un moule de gelée salée. Son origine remonte à la fin du XVIIIe siècle en France, le mot « Aspic » comparant littéralement les couleurs de la gelée à celles du serpent. Le dictionnaire Oxford donne une définition de l’aspic: dans sa forme la plus simple, il s'agit d'une version solide d'une soupe conventionnelle. Avec les oeuvres présentées dans Aspic! Stefano se faufile comme un serpent à travers la variété des matériaux et des techniques qu'il a utilisés tout au long de sa carrière. Tous les éléments que l'on retrouve dans ses grandes toiles, ses peintures sans support, ses assemblages et ses sculptures sont présents, capturés et préservés dans un format et une échelle faciles à savourer et à digérer.
Nous serions ravis que vous vous joigniez à nous pour le vernissage de cette exposition le mercredi 14 mai de 17h à 20h et ensuite les vendredis, samedis et dimanches de 13h à 18h, jusqu'au 27 juin.
Un Artist Brunch sera également organisé le dimanche 15 juin de 11h à 13h.
