Artist Demos: Innovation in Print and Paper
Saturday 20 July / 12.30 – 1.30pm / Gold coin koha
Join us for an afternoon of artist-led demos in printmaking and paper craft, with Gaby Reade and Yinghua Jian of The Critique Group, Ōtautahi Christchurch. As part of the exhibition, What Has the Wind Blown In?
Solar Etching with Gaby Reade
Discover the magic of sunlight in printmaking. Gaby will demonstrate her preferred solar plate etching method. This process uses steel plates coated in light-sensitive polymer to create finely detailed prints with light from either the sun or a UV lightbox. See how Gaby harnesses this method in her own work and learn how you can adapt it to your own print practice.
DIY Paper Stretching and Flattening with Yinghua Jian (Jan)
Crinkled, warped, or water-damaged paper? No problem. Jan will share her go-to techniques for reviving and preparing paper, a valuable skill for anyone who works with, or on paper, from watercolorists to installation artists. Learn how to stretch, flatten, and rescue delicate sheets using simple, accessible materials.
Whether you’re a printmaker, painter, or mixed media artist, or simply curious, these demos will offer new tools, techniques, and ideas to elevate your practice.
