First Impressions: Printmaking with Natural Materials

Immerse yourself in the beauty of the Gaspereau Valley with this one-of-a-kind printmaking experience, where nature, art, and culture intertwine. Learn a new skill or enrich your existing practice in a new way with skilled facilitation by a local textile artist and printmaker whose work has been exhibited internationally. As you work, you’ll learn about the cultural and ecological history of the Gaspereau Valley, hearing stories that connect the land to its people—past and present. By the end of the session, you’ll not only leave with a tangible piece of custom art but also with a deeper connection to nature and an appreciation for the balance of art, food, and community.

Highlights

- Begin your journey with a guided foraging walk through orchards and forests, soaking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the natural world as you gather natural materials ethically and sustainably.

- The experience deepens as you transition from the outdoors to a light-filled studio, where you’ll transform your foraged finds into unique works of art.

- Using water-based inks and natural pigments, you’ll layer leaves, grasses, and other organic materials onto paper to create striking relief prints.

- Local flavors further enrich the experience with thoughtfully prepared refreshments, served on artisanal pottery which have been crafted by the region’s talented makers.

Note: Julie's studio is in the Gaspereau Valley, outside of Wolfville. Civic address will be shared upon booking.
