Step back in time into a mysterious Old Blacksmith’s workshop, where we will gather to make a special kirinuki (carved out) ceramic box.
As part of the South West Japanese Festival and hosted by Shelley from Seasaltware Ceramics, in this session you will learn a Japanese ceramic technique.
This workshop is an immersive experience!
While you create, you will find yourself surrounded by traditional Japanese music, there will be sushi, macha tea, and wagashi (Japanese sweets), and even a background slideshow of Japanese landscapes.
Learn about the traditional technique of Kirinuki and a little bit about the history, thinking and methods of Japanese ceramics.
Using a special blend of stoneware clay we will use the traditional Japanese technique of kirinuki (to carve out) a lidded box form. All clay and tools will be provided. The completed boxes will then be dried, glazed and fired by Shelley for you to collect at her studio in Margaret River or to have posted to your home (shipping costs additional).
The boxes are ideal as a sculptural piece, for jewellery storage or a special gift box.
