Building Bridges: How Central Florida Public Media (WMFE) Unites our Community

Central Florida Public Media (WMFE) President and General Manager, Judith Smelser, discusses how public media is an accessible source of trustworthy news that encourages respectful conversations, empowers the community to make informed decisions, and creates genuine human connection through programs like One Small Step, community listening sessions, and other ongoing engagement efforts.
Since 2021, Judith has lead our local NPR station, the region’s sole nonprofit news source that serves nine counties. She also serves on the Executive Board of Florida Public Media, has been recognized by Orlando Magazine as a 2024 Woman of the Year, and by the Orlando Business Journal among their 2024 Most Influential Leaders.
During her tenure, she's championed projects including Engage, a local discussion show; The Wrap, a news podcast; a new reporting beat on housing and homelessness; and the Emerging Journalists Fellowship program. In 2024, she led the organization’s rebranding to Central Florida Public Media, underscoring its expanded multimedia role and commitment to independent journalism.

CFFC Educational Events are free and open to the public. Enjoy thought-provoking speakers, local freethought news, state/church activism, volunteer opportunities, and socializing. Come out to meet old friends and make new ones. Coffee and water will be available with snacks served during the social hour after the meeting so plan to stay a while.
CFFC has no membership dues, but we do have recurring expenses that keep the organization running. The largest expense are these monthly meetings (venue, equipment, speaker fees, travel, etc.).
