Parent-Child, Vietnamese & Japanese cooking (booking required)

We’re excited to invite families to a special plant-based kai literacy event featuring Vietnamese and Japanese cuisine.
Beyond exploring delicious and healthy plant-based cooking, this experience is a chance for children to learn about Vietnamese and Japanese cultures in a playful, hands-on way.
This event is squarely aligned with Matariki—the Māori New Year—a time to remind ourselves to come together, share kai, honour each other, and look ahead. In te ao Māori, kai is more than food: it’s a bridge that brings people closer, promotes unity (kotahitanga), caring and respect (manaakitanga), and connection with our environment and each other.
What to expect:
- Hands-on cooking in Vietnamese and Japanese plant-based styles
- recipe-focused activities designed to nurture children’s appreciation of diversity engaging them through food literacy
- A shared kai time to bring everyone together—reflecting the values of Matariki.
Let’s celebrate this Māori New Year by cooking, learning, sharing kai, and building meaningful connections across cultures.
All children must have an adult guardian with them to assist with the food preparation.
Children must be aged 5+.
