OmniArts Nebraska presents:
Clyt; or, The Bathtub Play
By Elisabeth Giffin Speckman
Directed by Laura Gold
PRODUCTION TO RUN June 26, 27, 28 at 7:30pm, June 29 at 2:00pm, at the Johnny Carson Theater at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
OmniArts Nebraska is thrilled to conclude its 13th season with the regional premiere production of Clyt; or, The Bathtub Play, by Elisabeth Giffin Speckman. The legendary events surrounding the Trojan War are explored though a mash-up of a modern, feminist lens combined with classical Greek story telling devices. Clyt; or, The Bathtub Play is a darkly comedic, lyrical love letter to one of mythology's most misunderstood women.
Clytemnestra never launched a thousand ships, but that doesn't mean she couldn't have. She's always felt a bit overshadowed, whether by her sister, Helen, her husband, or her children. So, she finds solace while alone in her bath. But when her sister's abduction leads to unspeakable events, Clytemnestra's life is forever altered.
Clyt; or, The Bathtub Play explores themes of identity, motherhood, and revenge. It invites us to ask: “how far we are willing to go to find peace during wartime?” The production features Megan Fangmeyer as Clytemnestra, and utilizes a Greek chorus to advance the story and to portray all other characters in the play. The ensemble includes Amber Fitzsimmons, Kieran Hoppe, Amelia Roth, Scott Shomaker, Melissa Wilson, and Dustin Witte.
The production is directed by Laura Gold, Associate Professor of Theatre at Peru State College. This is Gold’s third collaboration with OmniArts Nebraska, and she’s thrilled to have the opportunity to work with alumni from both Peru State College and her former students from UNL. The production team includes assistant director, Amelia Roth, Danielle Westerhoff as violence and intimacy coordinator, Joshua Girard as stage manager, scenic and lighting design by Dustin Witte, and sound design by Christian Novotny.
This production is intended for mature audiences.
Tickets are available through the Lied Center for Performing Arts Ticket Office, (402) 472-4747, or online at www.liedcenter.org.
General Admission: $20, Seniors: $16 (all fees apply). Additional discounts are available for students and OLLI members.
