"Made in the Plains"

First Saturdays of the month are for art fun! Stop by for gallery activities, special presentations, and creative exploration designed for all ages. Celebrate artistic creativity today as we shine a spotlight on the 20 artists whose work fills our Made in the Plains exhibition.

A look at the fun this month from 11 am–2 pm:

• Begin at our Welcome Table in the Hawks Pavilion! Pick up a program and map for the day. We can let you know about membership opportunities, upcoming programs, our Bloomberg Connects digital guide, and Art Card self-guide resources. We also can help with any accessibility needs.
• Out & About Storytime with Omaha Public Library, 11 am; we’ll be in the Founder’s Room this month. There will be opportunities to learn about all the great things happening at area libraries.
• In the Community Room, you’ll get a sneak peek at Scrollathon, a community art project that began with workshops Sep 2-5, and will become a Connect Gallery exhibition in Spring 2026.
• Enjoy a music performance by Aly Peeler and Alexander Olsen. Aly Peeler, Omaha-based, creates original music that touches upon themes of social and environmental justice, self-acceptance, and love and loss. Collaborating with Sioux Falls native Alexander Olsen, her stories are launched into new territory, weaving in the language of jazz, the discipline of classical piano, and the fire of improvisation.
• In the studio, create your own work of art.
• Check out our Art Cart station, with opportunities to touch hands-on materials and talk about art with our friendly Gallery Volunteers.
• Drop-In Sketching! We have all the materials you need for sketching—a great way to slow down and look carefully at what you see.
• Join a public tour, led by our Gallery Volunteers; 11 am, "Made in the Plains;" and at 1 pm, "Meet The Joslyn." Free, drop-in experiences.
• The Founder’s Room is designated as a quiet space for this event, stocked with an array of books and games.
• Due to the generous support of Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, Made in the Plains tickets are free to all today; always free to Joslyn members.
• Don’t forget to check out more great spaces—The Cafe offers food and drink for sale. The Shop has beautiful art items for all ages and interests. If you are part of an intergenerational group, be sure to visit Art Works: A Place for Curiosity, an interactive space with nine different art activity stations (children must be accompanied by adults).

Generous support provided by Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program.

Sponsorship for this program series provided by FNBO and Omaha Steaks.
