Robert Lah's Chamber Jazz
Advertisement
Chamber Jazz takes its inspiration from certain Classical approaches to musical structure and performance practice, particularly as in chamber ensembles, and applies these concepts to jazz performance. The arrangements feature development of theme and structure, tight ensembles, subtle dynamics, and improvisational counterpoint in addition to individual soloing. The varied repertoire includes original music as well as works by well-known jazz composers. The approach to arranging is compositional, with personalized, innovative versions of the works of these artists, exploring new harmonies and unexpected stylistic interpretations. Pianist Robert Lahβs original compositions range from mainstream and blues, to hard bop and Latin, and include longer multi-movement works. The quartet also features Linda Davidson, flutes and piccolo; David Parlato, electric bass; and Cal Haines, drums.
