Rainforest hike for Stockwellia

Hey everyone! I have a super exciting event to share with you all this weekend. The Australian Tropical Herbarium's very own botanist extraordinaire Stuart Worboys has invited us out on a morning walk to see one of the biggest and rarest trees in the Wet Tropics, Stockwellia. Just 400 or so of these trees exist in the world, so if you're keen to see them then this is the trip for you!

We'll be meeting at Gillies Cafe and Bar on the corner of Lake Barrine Rd and Gillies Hwy at 8.30am to get some food and drinks etc. and make sure everyone knows where we're going, and we're aiming to leave there at about 9am.

It's about a 2km walk to the trees from our parking spot, and as far as I'm aware there is no official track so please keep that in mind in deciding what to wear and whether you want to come. Please definitely bring closed-toed shoes and it's probably a good idea to bring a raincoat for if it starts getting wet.

If it's too wet we will unfortunately have to cancel, but there's plenty of other stuff to do on the tablelands if you still want a fun morning.

We will finish up the walk in time to have a late lunch in Yungaburra if anyone want to join for that as well. :D

It's a decent drive out to the cafe so make sure you plan accordingly, and if anyone needs a lift please let me know and I'll see if we can get a carpool going. See you all there! :)
