Stained Clay Workshop at Kentuck

Glaze isn't the only way to create decorative and fun surfaces on pottery! In this workshop, students will explore different methods of designing and constructing with stained clay.

Students will learn how to mix ceramic stains into their clay to create different shades and colors and will be shown how to use the following techniques to build multicolored pieces:

Nerikomi Pottery - a Japanese technique utilizing pigmented clay that is strategically stacked and sliced multiple times to create whimsical slab designs.

Marbling Clay - can be done with less planning, but offers a way to create a beautiful, multi-color swirled surface.

Coil and slab building - stack and build with your clay, alternating colors as you go.

This class is beginner and intermediate friendly. Day one will be spent mixing different shades and colors of clay, day two will be spent building 2-4 pieces of pottery depending on size. The instructor will fire and clear glaze all work created in this workshop. Students can expect to pick up work 2-3 weeks after the last day of class.

All supplies included in tuition.
