Let's try this again. Arrive at 10:00, bus around 10:30, and we'll hang at the river for a little bit before departing so the fashionably late can catch up.
Also, continue to watch this event as it approaches in case I have to cancel for bad weather or something. Feel free to ask questions. See you then!
Details:
Their website is still down but I'll add a link when it's available.
And a link to the Welch Mill Tubing Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/welchcanoetubekayak
Please visit the websites for full details, but here are the highlights:
- $20 per tube, and you can rent a tube for your cooler. Think of your cooler as another person
- Cash only. NO CARDS
- NO GLASS OR STYROFOAM CONTAINERS. Metal or plastic containers only. They will check your cooler
- Someone must leave a drivers license or ID for your subgroup when renting tubes. Welch Mill Tubing will also hang onto car keys, wallets, cell phones or whatever if you ask. Some things should not be risked getting lost on the river
- Hot Dog Island might be available. I'll confirm and update later. There was also a food truck last year right next to where we get our tubes. I'll try to confirm that too. Anyway, bring snacks just in case
- Once on the river, the typical trip is 3-4 hours, depending on water level
- Cell service is spotty at best in the river valley, so do your coordinating/texting/posting before you arrive.
- Food after tubing: Many go to King's Place for a bite afterward. https://kingsplacebar.com It's a short trip from Welch Mill Tubing and has an interesting menu.
And here's a quick checklist of things to bring:
- sunblock
- sunglasses
- hat
- quick-drying shorts or change of clothes
- towel
- closed-toe shoes that won't come off easily (river shoes or old sneakers are good)
- alcoholic beverages
- non-alcoholic beverages (don't forget to hydrate)
- food (in case Hot Dog Island/food truck isn't available)
- cash, small bills are good
- NO GLASS OR STYROFOAM CONTAINERS
