This a beginning blacksmithing class that a parent and child can do together. Students will learn foundational skills of blacksmithing with both a coal fired forge and a propane burning forge. The first project will be a J hook. Cut, bend, shape, twist and punch a hole. The second project is to heat and hammer a claw hammer into a tomahawk by hammer a blade, drifting a round hole, and cutting off and shaping the remainder of the claws. Day two will involve making a maple wood handle from scratch and fitting it to your tomahawk head. Both parent and child need natural fiber clothing and footwear, safety glasses with side shields, leather gloves, ear plugs and a 2.5 lb. metal working hammer. Pay to register. Call 207-205-4849.
