Tallapoosa River Float Trip

This will be an approximate 5-mile float from the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park to Jaybird Creek Landing. This is known by several references as the most pristine section of the Tallapoosa River and has numerous small drops and rapids. The left side of the river offers the funnest run. Unfortunately, currently no outfitters service this section so we will have to run our own shuttle. Participants should wear clothes you don't mind getting wet, sunscreen, and water shoes or sandals. Plans are to take a lunch break on the river so participants should pack something to eat and liquids to drink. Also, a change of clothes for after the float is advisable. Plans are to meet at the Horseshoe Bend put-in at 10:00 am, drop our boats off, take as many cars (with just a driver) as possible to Jaybird Creek Landing, and then transport the drivers back up to the put-in. Local participants may meet by 8:00 am at the Publix Grocery Store located at the Oxford Exchange adjacent to Exit 188 on I-20 and US Hwy 78 to carpool or caravan to the Horseshoe Bend put-in. Those wishing to meet directly at Horseshoe Bend should meet there by 9:45 am. Horseshoe Bend is located at 11288 Horseshoe Bend Rd, Daviston, AL. Participants should register for this outing by Thursday, July 24, by contacting Keith Hudson. Keith may be reached by phone or text at 256-453-9527, or by email at YW5uaXN0b24gISBvdXRkb29yICEgYXNzbiB8IGdtYWlsICEgY29t.
