Grow Your Own Crystal

Calcite, quartz, and pyrite are just a few of the beautiful minerals that can be found in Jackson County. These examples take a long time to form, sometimes tens or hundreds of years – much too slow for us to observe.

However, we can grow our own crystals in only a matter of days, still using the same scientific concepts!

Come to the Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa, on Saturday, July 5 at 1:00 PM to learn more about the kinds of crystals and other rocks found in Jackson County, the processes that form them, and then grow your own creation to take home.

Please come prepared with your own glass jar or large mug for the craft – don’t worry, they will be safe to reuse after being cleaned.

This program is FREE and open to all ages. For more information or to register, contact Jackson County Conservation at (563) 652-3783 or Y29uc2VydmF0aW9uIHwgamFja3NvbmNvdW50eSAhIGlvd2EgISBnb3Y=.
