The Gathering
Wild Roots will be an immersive celebration centered on the theme of reclaiming our “wild roots.” In conservation, re-wilding is the process of restoring ecosystems by allowing nature to heal itself. Likewise, humans also need their own form of re-wilding—a return to deeper connections with nature, creativity, and each other.

Our eco-spiritual gathering seeks to inspire fresh ideas, foster meaningful dialogue, and bridge divides in a time of increasing polarization. Through music, art, embodiment practices, and wisdom-sharing, Wild Roots will serve as a catalyst for healing and renewal. We aim to create a welcoming space for celebration, creativity, and discussion, reinforcing an ongoing cycle of restoration.

The urgency to rebuild community and unity has never been greater. Amidst rising fear and division, humanity must reintegrate creativity, inclusive spirituality, and a deep connection to nature. This will be a space for humans to gather, nurtured by Nature, not doctrine. This gathering will not seek to restructure some new religious dogma; we want only to offer a time and place where all humans, regardless of religious beliefs, can gather to re-wild their spirits. By blending art with activism, we seek to advance justice, environmental stewardship, and social healing.

We want attendees to sink their roots deep into Nature’s soil, finding an ancient source of life to generate new and natural human connections between one another, between themselves and the Earth, and between themselves and the Life-Giver, the living Mystery that interlaces all reality. Through music, art, embodied practices, and sharing wisdom, we see Wild Roots as a catalyst for a more peaceful and connected world. We want to inspire wilder, more diverse spiritual habitats, creating a cycle of ongoing healing and growth!

The Land
Sky Lake is a United Methodist Camp & Retreat center located in Windsor, NY. Nestled on the edge of the Catskill Mountains, Sky Lake’s rustic charm and comfortable surroundings await your arrival. Retreat to a chair overlooking the picturesque lake or go for a leisurely stroll on one of the trails that meander through the bountiful forests with over 900-acres of woods, fields, and water are yours to explore. Our year-round facilities offer the perfect setting for a retreat away from the distractions and demands of everyday life.

Sky Lake is an alcohol-free facility and has limited Wi-Fi. Due to the altitude and the lake, Sky Lake may be 10 degrees cooler than the surrounding area.

Lodging
Riley Lodge offers guests a spectacular view of the lake. Built in the mid-1960s, Riley has a great deal of character and many unique traits. The main room offers an ideal place to gather around the fire, put together a puzzle, or play board games into the wee hours of the night.

Guest rooms are located in the two wings located directly off the main room. The South Wing also contains two lounge areas, while the North Wing contains one. These lounges are perfect for break-away sessions or an afternoon spent alone reading. The upper level bedrooms have bathrooms en suite, while the lower level rooms share two bathrooms. Bedding, towels, and toiletries are provided for each guest. The beds are rustic, camp style originally designed with kids in mind. We recommend bringing a bed roll or foam pad to top the mattresses. Rooms are shared unless you reserve one of six private rooms.

Commuting offers the full retreat experience while staying at home or other local accommodations.

Camping on site is also available at Sky Lake's Family Campground. Spacious campsites afford the privacy and intimacy to experience a renewal of body and spirit through the wonder of the natural world.

Who We Are
Church in the Wild is an eco-spiritual community based at Sky Lake Camp & Retreat Center. We’re a wild church which means we gather primarily outdoors and are committed to connecting with and caring for Creation. We’re on a mission to follow the Wild Spirit through Creation, adventure, and restoration. We welcome people of all faiths or no faith to gather in community, experience the Divine, and work for environmental and social justice.

Anamchara Books is a publisher based in Vestal, NY. In Gaelic, an anamchara is a soul friend, a companion and mentor (often across the miles and the years) in life’s long journey through the spiritual realm. Following in the footsteps of this ancient heritage, Anamchara Books is committed to creating a community of soul friends. Our mission is to publish books that build bridges: between spiritual perspectives and religious traditions; between the wisdom of the past and the demands of modern life; between ourselves and the Earth; and between ourselves and the Divine.
