Little Sprouts

Little Sprouts is a monthly class designed to foster a love and sense of wonder for the outside world in your child. Each month, we will explore a seasonal theme through a 5-senses garden walk, story-time, a hands-on craft or activity, and a take home kit. Little Sprouts is most fun outdoors, so come prepared for the weather! In the event of inclement weather, we will have an indoor location.
Feel free to bring your own snack for story-time!

April: Tulips
Come explore Tulip Mania with your little one! Led by Garden Educator Kristen, children will explore the colorful world of tulips on a 5-senses walk, learn about the exciting (and silly!) history of tulips in Holland, and even create their own colorful flowers to take home!
May: Seeds
It's Spring so you know what that means - it's time to plant seeds and get growing! Join us to learn all about seeds and Spring in the Garden on a 5-senses garden walk, explore a seed’s journey through exploration and storytelling, and even plant your own seed to grow at home!
June: Birds
A garden is a home! Let's explore the garden to see how many birds we can find using our 5 senses. We will learn how birds build nests, why birds are important, and how to find them at home. Kiddos and caregivers will work together to make a birdhouse, and take-home instructions and materials to make a bird feeder.
July: Pollinators
The garden is alive with activity in July - come join Libby to learn all about the pollinators that make our gardens grow! Kiddos will observe pollinators and flowers on a 5-senses walk with Garden Educator Kristen, learn about why pollinators are friends not foes, and engage in sensory play before heading home with a take-home game!
August: Sunflowers
Join us in a special exploration of our new Sunflower Field! Kiddos and caregivers will explore the field with Garden Educator Kristen, focusing on what we can see, smell, hear, and touch. We will return to the shade to create Van Gogh inspired art before heading home with materials to grow your own sunflower!
September: Vegetables
September is harvest season here in New England! Come celebrate the bounty of farm-fresh veggies in our own Seed to Table Vegetable Garden with Educator Kristen - smelling, tasting, seeing, touching, and even listening our way through the produce. We will unwind in the shade with snacks from the garden and create our own vegetable themed art. Kids will take home a fine motor skill activity, as well as the Taste the Rainbow challenge!
October: Leaves
Join us this month for a celebration of Fall Leaves! Kiddos will enjoy a 5-senses walk through the garden and local woods to admire and observe the fall leaves (The crunch! The colors! The smell!) We will create art inspired by the leaves and explore leaf shapes through take-home matching games.
November: My First Winter Hike!
Join Garden Educator Kristen for a winter hike along the Charles! Hiking with children can start small - like this 1/2mile walk along the Charles River right here at Elm Bank. As we take in our surroundings with our 5 senses we will collect special forest treasures. We will read a story and have a snack on the trail, then head back to our classroom for an indoor art project. Families will take home "Spending Time Outside in Winter with Children - Tips and Tricks" and fun hiking activities to do with your little ones. Let's hit the trail!
