Sunday Talk: “Becoming a Naturalist: Nature in Your Backyard”

Nature is all around us—surprisingly abundant, sometimes fragile, and often overlooked. In this thoughtful and encouraging presentation, Alex Bodden, President of the South Okanagan Naturalists’ Club (SONC), will explore how anyone can begin noticing and appreciating the natural world, starting right outside their own back door.

Even if you don’t know much about birds, plants, or ecosystems, there’s still so much to see, learn, and enjoy. Alex will highlight some of the remarkable species found in our region, the growing threats they face, and how community organizations like SONC support both conservation and curiosity through outings, education, and citizen science initiatives.

After the presentation, Alex welcomes those interested to join him for a short walk around the Grist Mill grounds to observe and discuss nature firsthand.
