Jane Austen Walk

To commemorate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth in 1775, we are offering a guided walk with Fred around some of the town that Jane would have seen during her visits in 1803 and 1804.
In her novel Persuasion, completed some 12 years later in 1816, Jane Austen based a key moment of the story on the Cobb, here in Lyme Regis. The walk blends this episode with some of the contemporary history of Lyme, and a few illustrations of the filming that was done here for the five film and TV versions of her story.
The walk lasts about 60-90 minutes, starting at the Museum and finishing on The Cobb. After a career in Stage, Studio & Television Lighting our guide Fred retired to Lyme some 22 years ago, with an abiding interest in Lyme’s long and varied history. The walk avoids most of Lyme’s challenging inclines.
Museum Admission & Jane Austen Walk included in ticket price.
