Join us for a series of intimate folk concerts at Cullercoats Watch House, a unique and quirky venue in the heart of Cullercoats.
Voices o'er the Bay: Enjoy an evening of songs and music from: Teddy Cuthbert, Christine Jeans & Jill Stephen, Adam Holden, Miggins Fiddle
Teddy Cuthbert
A 20-year-old singer of traditional folk songs, Teddy Cuthbert is beguiled by the past as well as stories of timeless human emotion. Singing both unaccompanied and with his baritone ukulele, Teddy has half-accidentally gathered stylistic inspiration from everywhere from Watersons and Carthys to early-20th-century jazz and vaudeville, from Bert Lloyd to Nina Simone, to barely-surviving recordings made of barely-surviving pitmen and field labourers. Teddy hopes to imbue every song in his repertoire — from this country and abroad — with the dear, textured, rural spirit of his native Northumberland.
Christine Jeans & Jill Stephen
Christine and Jill discovered several years ago that they have the same tastes in music. They tend to play short songs due to their lack of concentration or their short attention span… and sometimes they even get through a song without laughing.
They like quirky songs in harmony – with a social commentary for the world they find themselves in…
Most importantly they enjoy themselves and hope the audience do too…
Adam Holden
Adam Holden is a songwriter and over the last decade or so, he’s written approximately seventy songs in a range of styles and with different audiences or contexts in mind. These touch on immediate social, domestic and natural landscapes but are also rooted in a love of political ideas. He usually writes alone but has written music for words (by Cohen, James and Frost) and words for music (by Bley, Souter). His song “Nobody to hear it but the singer” was in the final of 2019 Folklub songwriter of the year competition. Adam’s solo EP of songs about political life, “Playtime for Everyone” is available here.
Miggins Fiddle
Miggins Fiddle are fiddle player Marina Dodgson and guitarist Maurice Condie. They perform traditional folk tunes and songs alongside their own tune compositions. Marina has won a number of awards at the Morpeth Northumbrian Gathering as a composer, and together with Maurice, has been involved in several creative projects to write tunes in celebration of people, places, occasions…and beer!
