Welcome to our annual Summer Art Exhibition, featuring artworks by artists from the MESS ROOM ‘Taking Flight’ project, in collaboration with Kent Association for the Blind Art Groups and Peer Arts. Predominantly artists with sight loss, they meet regularly to explore creativity and support each other, showcasing their talents in this major public exhibition.
Our exhibition is a celebration of Medway's aviation history, inspired by the Short Brothers and the Short Scion Floatplane, and showcases a diverse collection of artworks co-created during a series of inclusive, artist-led sessions.
“It’s hard to explain how tricky life can be and how you feel to your sighted friends, and being with my art friends we’re all in similar boats. Some of us have very little sight, some have none at all. This group is so important to us, we’ve all made new friendships and we get involved in such different projects, and get to meet new artists. This helps keep our minds and bodies active. I love our art sessions and this really is where I feel normal!” KAB Medway Art Group Participant
The artwork is on show until 31 August 2025. Visit Rochester Cathedral website for full programme of Floatplane inspired activities and to check the opening times: https://www.rochestercathedral.org/floatplane
The exhibition is also part of the Medway Open Studios & Arts Festival taking place in July: https://medwayopenstudios.org
Supported by Kent Association for the Blind, The Colyer-Fergusson Charitable Trust, The Rochester Rotary Club
