Landscape Vessels - Professional Development Workshop for Teachers

This full day workshop is presented in conjunction with Shifting Ground: a national touring exhibition curated by artist and researcher Larissa Warren.

Join us at The Centre Beaudesert for a rich day of creative exploration and ceramic skill building designed specifically for art educators. This hands-on ceramic workshop takes inspiration from Shifting Ground, an exhibition examining place, history, and the natural world through clay.

Artist and curator, Larissa Warren, will guide you through an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of Shifting Ground, including insights into her research and testing of local clays. Together, we’ll explore the exhibition’s core themes of community & place, geology & landscape - translating them into your own creative ceramic practice. With a focus on creative exploration, the workshop encourages artists to experiment with the ceramic medium and develop their own unique responses.

In the practical workshop session, you will:

Hand-build a landscape vessel using a variety of mid-fire clays
Learn and refine essential ceramic techniques including coiling, marbling, joining, scoring, pulling, shaping, burnishing, trimming, and polishing
Explore principles of design, balance and form.
Connect your making to ideas of landscape, story, and connection
Receive a digital resource pack to support your continued learning and classroom application plus a tool kit to use on the day and to take back to school.
Materials include a range of coloured clays and a kit of pottery tools. Whether you’re new to clay or deepening your expertise, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to engage with contemporary ceramics through both making and meaning.
