King Island, Wellington Point Recreation Reserve - Birds Queensland Outing

This is the classic low tide walk from Wellington Point to King Island. As well as the usual Bayside birds, we’ll be on the lookout for Double-banded Plovers visiting from New Zealand and other migratory waders that have decided to stay for the winter.

The walk should be easy, but we are planning to get our feet wet. We’ll be walking out over the sand isthmus, then continuing to the rocky outcrop to the north of the Island and coming back over the mudflats to the east of the Island. Gumboots or other waterproof walking boots are highly recommended. Bring your telescope if you have one, as the waders can be tricky to spot.
