Come for the Quake, Stay for the Cause: Special Screening Fundraiser for the Museum
On Sunday, June 29 at 6 PM, Tiny Pony tavern will host a special screening of rare VHS footage documenting the immediate aftermath of the 1992 Landers Earthquake, a 7.3 magnitude event that shook the Morongo Basin and beyond. The footage, uncovered by local resident Colin Maccubbin, captures raw moments from the quake’s impact—interviews with neighbors, scenes of destruction, and even aerial footage from a small plane surveying the damage. Guests are invited to stay after the screening to share their own memories from that historic day.
The Morongo Basin Historical Museum will be on-site with original artifacts, scrapbooks, and memorabilia from the era. Donations collected during the event will support the Museum’s ongoing mission to preserve and share our region’s unique history. Special thanks to Tiny Pony for hosting, and to Robert Haydon and Z107.7 FM for bringing this incredible story to light.
