Candlelight vigil, for the horses and the dogs - 2025

Animal Liberation Tasmania will be hosting a candlelight vigil, for the horses and the greyhound dogs who have passed away/been injured due to the racing industry here.
Where: 6 Goodwood Road (Glenorchy) -> at the corner of the Elwick Racecourse, on the Brooker Highway/Goodwood Road intersection
When: Saturday, 5th of July
Time: from 12-1PM
How it will run: Organizers will arrive early, to make sure everything is set up (flowers, signs, ribbons, etc.) At 12pm, we will provide everyone with something to hold, such as flowers, signage, or an LED candle. Then we will stand and sit together (a limited number of chairs will be provided) for the hour.
Feel free to bring real or plastic flowers.
If you wish to, please wear black.
-> please also remember to dress up warm, as we've found it can get quite cold whilst sitting/standing on the side of the highway. We will be providing a limited number of pairs of gloves, for attendees to borrow during the vigil.
This will be an opportunity to honor these dogs and horses, with the dignity and respect they deserve- things that they were never afforded in their short life as a racing commodity.
Please, stand with us in mourning these innocent animals deaths and injuries, and join us as we share with the public what is happening on our local tracks, every single week.
