Artist El Shackleton will explore the history of color in art, the development of color theory, and the science behind how we see color. Through examples in art and drama, she will help participants understand the uses of color and the psychological effects of color on the viewer. Participants will explore in depth a simplified way to mix the color they want using watercolor.

Artist Information:

Elena Shackleton began her journey as an artist at an early age, and was apprenticed to Pat Witt at the Barn Studio of Art. While there, she developed her lifelong passion for teaching fine art, painting and drawing. She was exposed to many great artists and instructors from The Philadelphia Museum School and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Pivotal to her artistic development were the many workshops Elena attended with PAFA instructors at the Barn Studio, and most notably, workshops taught by Henry Hensche, at the Cape School of Art. She went on to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with a concentration in painting and drawing.

Elena worked in illustration and graphic design until the age of 30. She returned to painting and teaching, both publicly and privately, most recently at the Banana Factory and The Baum School of Art. Elena’s current role is as President of the Lehigh Art Alliance. As such, she organizes LAA exhibits throughout the Lehigh Valley. Through her efforts LAA has developed a partnership with Historic Bethlehem Museums & Sites giving LAA a year-round exhibition presence in the Historic 1869 Luckenbach Mill in Bethlehem, PA. Elena is active in Plein Air and Lehigh Valley art scenes. She paints primarily in watercolor and oil in a modern, realist style and her work is in many private
