Meet at the Bush Lake Chapter Beach
As part of their study of Bush Lake, the Nine Mile Creek Watershed District is conducting a series of electrofishing surveys to document the different fish species in the lake. Volunteers will help identify the fish species and measure the length of fish gathered by an electrofishing boat. The watershed district will bring all necessary supplies—just wear some clothes you don’t mind getting fishy or wet.
Electrofishing is a common scientific survey method used to sample fish populations to determine abundance, population density and species composition. When performed correctly, electrofishing results in no permanent harm to the fish, which return to their natural mobility state in as little as two minutes after being caught.
