Adventures in History - 1872: A Day in the Country

Even though students were not required to attend school during the summer, the local one-room schoolhouse was a place kids would gather for fun and friendship (after they finished their chores, of course). Come join other kids to play old-fashioned games, learn how to write and send a letter (before the invention of the envelope), and practice Memory Gems that you’ll remember forever.

This adventure is for kids entering grades 3 through 6. The two-hour "history lesson” provides a hands-on opportunity for kids to step back in time and experience what life was like in the 1800s, doing what kids did on a summer day back then. Designed to encourage interest in our local history, kids will come home after their adventure with mementos and activities to continue learning on their own.

Please plan on sending a snack for your child to enjoy during break time.
