The Mountain Skills course is an ideal choice for walkers interested in transferring their walking skills to steep, remote or more mountainous terrain. Ideally, participants will have some basic hill walking experience and have a reasonable level of fitness.
Mountain Skills Courses are nationally accredited and developed by Mountain Training, they are aimed to equip you with the required knowledge, expertise and skills to enjoy the mountains safely.
What does the Mountain Skills Course Cover?
The Mountain Skills syllabus covers the following aspects:
Planning
Walking Skills
Clothing and Equipment
Weather
Navigation in the Mountains
Environmental Knowledge
Hazards and Emergency Procedures in the Mountains
Prior Experience and Fitness
You would have experience of hill or mountain walking and be of a reasonable level of fitness. You can expect to be out walking each day for around 5-6 hours generally away from paths onto steeper rougher ground. We might opt to have a longer walk on day 1, walking into the early evening to allow for a shorter day and earlier finish on day 2 whilst ensuring to cover the 18 hours minimum contact time.
Any health issues should be talked through with your Tutor prior to the start of the course.

All instruction and learning resources, certificate upon completion, all group safety equipment, use of maps and compasses.
What is not included?
