Maurice Lennon, Ciara Brennan and Chris Dawson

Founding member of Stockton’s Wing Maurice Lennon is joined by multi-instrumentalists Ciara Brennan and Chris Dawson to perform a dynamic and diverse repertoire of traditional and newly composed music.

Maurice Lennon is one of the most instantly recognisable names in Irish folk. In 1977, at the tender age of 19, he put the traditional music world on notice becoming the youngest ever winner of the All Ireland Fleadh Cheoil Senior Fiddle Championship.

He was a founder member of Irish folk/trad supergroup Stockton’s Wing in the early ‘80’s, going on to perform and record with them for twenty seven years. While playing with ‘The Wing’ he’s had the pleasure of sharing the stage with a host of world renowned artists including Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Stephan Grapelli and Michael Jackson. He’s also toured and performed with giants of Irish music such as Finbar Furey and Sean Keane.

The Maurice Lennon Trio is completed by Dublin singer-songwriter Ciara Brennan and multi-instrumentalist Chris Dawson – already an established duo in their own right having performed, composed and recorded intensely together in recent years.

A musician and songwriter of notable gift, Ciara is a highly accomplished vocalist and fiddle player who has also been known to branch out into mandolin, concertina and piano along the way.
Hailing from the musical heritage of the Rowsome and Brennan families, she has won all Ireland titles for violin, solo singing and the not so common art of Lilting. She has toured Britian, Canada and the US with Comhaltas Ceolteori hEireann and anchored the summer show Sessium in the Comhaltas headquarters in Dublin for many years.

More recently she has performed with Michael McGoldrick, John Doyle and John McCusker. She’s also ventured into other genres such as alternative rock band Kid Coy who released their debut album Resolute last year.

Multi-instrumentlist Chris Dawsons principle instruments of expertise are the traditional flute/whistle (he’s one of the rare flute players who has mastered the circular breathing technique) and cittern/bouzouki but he also includes bodhran, mandolin and didgeridoo in his arsenal.

A native of Manchester, his career reflects an open mind and attitude towards a variety of musical styles and influences while honouring his traditional roots. He’s toured the UK and Europe with a soul/funk band and performed studio work with several chart topping artists, working alongside notable musicians such as Sylvain Barou (Triad, Guidewires) Dan, Ar Braz, Michael MCGoldrick and Annie Ebrel.

Completely self taught he has also, remarkably, made and played his own professional quality bamboo flutes for over twenty years.

Collectively as a trio, Maurice, Ciara and Chris are kindred musical souls combining skill and a fierce respect and passion for traditional music with an inquisitiveness and creativity that resists boundaries and constantly seeks to push the envelope and blur the lines between genres.
