Headford Brickeens: Drop-in community engagement workshop with Mary Elizabeth Barron

We are taking inspiration from Headford's location as a gateway to Connemara, the Joyce Country and Western Lakes Geopark and its situation on the shores of Lough Corrib, famous for its trout-fishing. Breac is the Irish word for trout and a small trout is a bricín. Locals often refer to trout as Brickeens in English also.
Mary will guide locals and visitors through some very simple large-scale lacemaking techniques using recylcled plastic bags and together we hope to make a series of speckled brickeens to string together for future community events as a bunting. Join us as we celebrate our local waterways, angling traditions and highlight the need to preserve our lake and keep it clear of plastics and other pollutants.
You don't need any lacemaking experience to join in. Stop by to try it out for a short while or stay for the whole day. We would like as many people as possible to have a go!
No booking required (but we'd appreciate an email to let us know you're attending so we can estimate numbers aGVhZGZvcmRsYWNlIHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=)
