Foster Training: Traverse City

You are invited to attend GRRoM's upcoming Foster Training Workshop in the Traverse City area, convenient for the β€˜up north’ Fosters, and timed to be immediately following the GRRoM event -
A Golden Afternoon at K & A Hop Dogs.

Whether you are a novice or an experienced GRRoM foster, all are welcome and encouraged to attend. We will address pertinent issues that foster families face with their newly acquired foster Golden Retrievers. A professional dog trainer will provide guidance in preparation for and introducing the surrendered dog to your home/family/pets and will share knowledge of recognizing and addressing dog behaviors. We will also review GRRoMs foster process and answer your questions/concerns.


SUBJECT: Lecture Information:
- What to expect when a new dog enters your home and how
- How to properly introduce dogs for success
- Learn to read dog body language
- How to approach unwanted behaviors i.e. resource guarding, conflict with touch, reactivity barking and lunging behaviors

PROFESSIONAL TRAINER: Abbie Robinson of Barks and Rec Dog Training
Abbie is a marketing and communications professional and dog training enthusiast. She began teaching at Barks and Rec in 2023, and is especially interested in puppy socialization, enrichment and dog sports. Abbie is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and a member of the International Association of Animal Behavioral Consultants (IAABC). She is passionate about helping dogs and their people gain confidence and improve their relationships through fun, reward-based training. Abbie is a strong advocate for animal welfare and is a graduate of the Fear Free Shelters Program. She regularly volunteers at Cherryland Humane Society and has fostered over 19 dogs and puppies for local rescue organizations. In her spare time, Abbie actively trains and competes in a variety of dog sports with her own three dogs including scent work, agility, rally, dock diving, frisbee, and trick training.

We highly recommend your attendance at this workshop. This will be a "people only" training session, no dogs.
