Sip on a glass of your favorite Saddlehill wine while you create gorgeous artwork out of pressed flowers led by local pressed flower artist, Debbie Cooney.
Most everyone can remember their grandmother pressing flowers in a phone book. Or maybe you have even tried pressing your own flowers between the pages of a heavy book with romantic thoughts of preserving the memories of that special moment.
The art of flower pressing has been around since early human civilization. Pressed laurels and garlands were even found in the 3,000-year-old coffin of Tutenkhamun's mother in Egypt! However, the official art of pressing flowers to form decorative images originated in the 1500s and is called Oshibana. Various techniques of pressed flower art have developed over the years. The method being taught in this class is called βReverse Composition.β
What to Expect: Choose which design you would like to create on the confirmation page after checkout from the 6 options pictured. During the class, students will learn the basics of flower pressing and will have hands-on instruction while they create their own piece of flower art. Students will leave the class with a finished work of art, 8x10, ready to frame. All supplies will be provided, including a glass of wine.
