An exhibition by artist and film-maker Emily Richardson that explores ideas around extraction, preservation, and memory through the lens of a journey to the Arctic World Archive’s World Memory Bank.

Asking questions about our relationship to historical and future memory tracing a journey from Emily's great grandmother’s work as an archaeologist to her own filmmaking practice reflecting on the reading of landscape, the material cultural artefact, its longevity over digital data storage and its archiving and energy implications to ask how a future archaeologist might piece together a narrative of this particular moment through fragments of data.

The project will raise awareness of the environmental issues surrounding data storage as well as thinking about how memory and time are inscribed in landscape.

The exhibition is accompanied by a study day on Friday 4 July.

The project is supported by Arts Council England.
