The Pageant of Ayrshire

The Pageant of Ayrshire took place at Dam Park, Ayr, in 1934. It lasted seven days, with 12,000 tickets sold per day and over 3,000 performers in total. Around 25,000 schoolchildren attended the rehearsals, travelling on specially organised trains from central and western Scotland.
This exhibition celebrates the Pageant of Ayrshire, featuring specially commissioned work by South Ayrshire writer and performer Simon Lamb, along with film footage and costumes from the event.
We also showcase a book by Roy McLean of Ayr, who, "in his moments of leisure" between 1934 and 1936, created an incredibly detailed, beautifully illustrated and written record of the Pageant.
Suitable for all ages
Opening Hours
Monday to Saturday: 10am - 5pm
Sunday: 12 noon - 5pm
